Review- Glow (Sky Chasers 1)

Title: Glow
Author: Amy Kathleen Ryan
Series: Sky Chasers book 1
Rating: 3/5

Synopsis
What if you were bound for a new world, about to pledge your life to someone you'd been promised to since birth, and one unexpected violent attack made survival—not love—the issue?

Out in the murky nebula lurks an unseen enemy: the New Horizon. On its way to populate a distant planet in the wake of Earth's collapse, the ship's crew has been unable to conceive a generation to continue its mission. They need young girls desperately, or their zealous leader's efforts will fail. Onboard their sister ship, the Empyrean, the unsuspecting families don't know an attack is being mounted that could claim the most important among them...

Fifteen-year-old Waverly is part of the first generation to be successfully conceived in deep space; she was born on the Empyrean, and the large farming vessel is all she knows. Her concerns are those of any teenager—until Kieran Alden proposes to her. The handsome captain-to-be has everything Waverly could ever want in a husband, and with the pressure to start having children, everyone is sure he's the best choice. Except for Waverly, who wants more from life than marriage—and is secretly intrigued by the shy, darkly brilliant Seth.

But when the Empyrean faces sudden attack by their assumed allies, they quickly find out that the enemies aren't all from the outside.

My Review
I was really excited about reading this book and I liked the beginning and how the action started right away, but once the battle was over I felt parts dragged out for a bit to long and there were a few times that things were foreshadowed for way to long so when things did happen I didn't really care cause I had been expecting it for a long time already. It took me much longer than I had expected to get through this book and I can't really explain why, I mean the central theme was very disturbing and different but the rest of the book left me bored and actually skimming a lot of it, I did not hate this book but it did not live up to the standards that I had set it. I found the writing off too I am all for description but that's not what this was, it was a bunch of words piled together to make it seem descriptive but it was not. The characters were not ones that I found myself particularly drawn or attached too, especially Keiran I did not care for him at all and by the end I sort of wished for him to fail, Seth was a little more likable but I want to know more about him and if I decide to read book 2 I hope to get more of his story (well since I bought book 2 cheap I will read it lol.)
Waverly was not my favorite at first but she did grow on me as the terror she experienced unfolded and she was also very strong willed and smart and I wait with bated breath to see how she handles what's next.
I wish I loved this book as much as so many others but I did not so I will close this review by saying this book was a like but not a love.
